With their tight victory last time still fresh in the memory, the Stags assembled for a home clash with a well-drilled Windsor side. With the weather set fair, Windsor called the toss correctly and elected to bat.
Bray started very well, with tight opening spells from Nye (conceding only 7 runs) and Shashwat , who removed both openers in his second over and had the remarkable figures of 2 overs, 1 maiden, 2 runs and 2 wickets.
Captain Rajan kept their energy up, very vocal (as always) in the field, and the boys responded to his urging with tight lines and superb fielding keeping the pressure on the Windsor batsmen, despite a stand of nearly 50 for the 3rd Windsor wicket. However, when their no.3, William, retired on 25* and Christian (who didn’t concede even 1 run off the bat!) had Amrik caught by Rajan, the impetus went out of the batting. As the new batsmen tried to accelerate, a run out was followed by Simon bowling the new bat first ball.
Despite some hitting at the end, Windsor were restricted to 90-5 off their 20 overs. Particularly pleasingly, we bowled and fielded as unit, keeping the runs down with athletic fielding and giving away only 8 wides and no balls.
In reply, Luca was unlucky to adjudged lbw early on, but John and Niam batted very responsibly. Niam, in particular was restrained by his usual standards but showed great maturity and intelligence in his stroke-play, making and running plenty of singles in his innings of 19 as he and John (who retired on 25*) put on 53 to break the back of the target.
There were still plenty to get, and our remaining batsmen put bat to ball chasing down the target with time to spare, Harry finishing on 20* off only 16 deliveries, including a hook for four to seal the victory.
Skipper Armstrong was blissfully unaware of the forecast for…
